Pulsed Electro-Magnetic Field (PEMF)

Meet Your PEMF Therapy Practitioner

Dr. Madelyn Lamar Altman PT, DPT

Boost Overall Cellular Health and Function with Frequency Specific Pulsed Electro-Magnetic Field Therapy at The Healing Collective

If you are suffering from any kind of acute or chronic pain or inflammation, Pulsed Electro-Magnetic Field (PEMF) therapy may offer an effective solution. It is a non-contact, non-invasive, drug-free modality promoting optimal cellular function so your body can do what it was designed to do: heal itself. While PEMF does not aim to diagnose or cure disease, it jump-starts your body’s innate healing process. The fully customizable therapy develops and maintains overall cellular function and health and naturally attunes to the body’s electromagnetic field.

There is an exciting, growing body of research on PEMF results, but we are limited when it comes to sharing claims of its therapeutic use. From our functional medicine perspective at The Healing Collective, we understand that not every treatment is a one-size-fits-all, which is why we take the time to ensure PEMF is the right treatment for your pain and inflammation condition before we recommend the therapy.

What Is Pulsed Electro-Magnetic Field Therapy?

We think of PEMF therapy as a whole-body battery recharger. Over time, especially with stress and illness, your body’s cells are slowly drained of their energy. PEMF sends energy back into the body, revitalizing the cells without an invasive procedure.  The difference between standard PEMF and Frequency-Specific PEMF is that we bring an entirely new level of healing with the ability to target specific tissues with frequency instructions in order to elicit very specific changes in the body.

How we use PEMF in your therapy session is very similar to the way we use Frequency Specific Microcurrent (FSM) therapy. This form of PEMF therapy is Frequency-Specific, meaning it is a dual-channel device that delivers two specific frequencies (to address a condition - such as 'reduce inflammation' and target tissue - such as 'peripheral nerve'). Your treatment will involve a pad with coils generating an electromagnetic field that interfaces with your body's electromagnetic field.  As the field circulates, it gives your body instructions for conditions associated with specific tissues. This powerful process elicits cellular changes to support healing from pain and inflammation.

At The Healing Collective, we believe the body is self-healing and self-regenerating. Our goal is to provide the necessary components and support, including tailored supplements, holistic nutrition, exercise prescription, physical therapy, and functional medicine treatments like PEMF to rebalance and optimize your body’s capacity for healing and regeneration.

What Conditions Can Frequency-Specific

PEMF Therapy Treat?

Clinical trials are still assessing and determining the various conditions PEMF therapy can treat. However, the data indicates that PEMF supports healing for a wide range of pain and inflammation-related health issues. Randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled trials have reported positive efficacy and safety profiles when PEMF was used to treat:

  • Non-specific low back pain
  • Patellofemoral pain syndrome
  • Chronic postoperative pain
  • Osteoarthritis-related pain
  • Rheumatoid arthritis-related pain
  • Fibromyalgia-related pain
  • Non-union fracture healing

Why Choose a Holistic Physical Therapy Practitioner for PEMF?

Choosing a holistic Physical Therapy Practitioner from The Healing Collective allows you to have a tailored plan of care that incorporates PEMF to treat your specific condition or area of pain and inflammation. Dr. Madelyn uses a fully-customizable, multiple channel PEMF device, allowing her to have complete, real-time control over the waveform, intensity, frequency combinations, and time duration of treatment. This means you get a highly personalized experience catered to your specific clinical presentation and response.

Frequently Asked Questions about

Frequency-Specific PEMF

At The Healing Collective, our Integrative Physical Therapy approach using Frequency-Specific PEMF can dramatically improve client results for pain and inflammation, even when conventional PT modalities have been unable to help. What sets us apart from other clinics using frequency medicine modalities is that we run many protocols simultaneously, enabling you to target multiple systems and tissues to facilitate a shorter, more relaxing, more holistic treatment experience. We can turn what would be a 20+ hour treatment into a 1.5-hour session. This unique approach makes FSM more affordable for our clients and enables them to come more frequently or as needed to treat their condition.

  • What does PEMF therapy do?

Pulsed electromagnetic field (PEMF) therapy uses electromagnetif field technology to support and promote the resolution of cellular dysfunction. By working in conjunction with the body's built-in cell recovery and restoration process, PEMF supports healing for pain and inflammation conditions.  Frequency-Specific PEMF is a step beyond standard PEMF because we are able to target specific tissue with specific frequency instructions to elicit very precise cellular changes.

  • How long does it take PEMF therapy to work?

Each patient’s results will vary depending on their condition, duration of dysfunction, hydration level, stable state, and body response. Most patients notice improvements within a few treatment sessions. In some cases with chronic, complex medical challenges, it may take longer.  We always customize your Plan of Care to suit your unique blueprint, so there is no one-size fits all approach.

  • How can I learn more about PEMF?

We have an entire series of posts about PEMF Therapy including the history, research, and more on our blog.  Click here to explore!

  • What conditions does PEMF treat?

While PEMF therapy does not claim to cure any illnesses, it has shown promise in treating a variety of pain and inflammation-related conditions, including low back pain, post-operative pain, fibromyalgia pain, osteoarthritis pain, non-union fractures, and so much more.  Check out our post on PEMF Research to learn more.

  • What are the benefits of PEMF therapy?

PEMF therapy strives to enhance the body’s natural healing and recovery processes, recharging the cells and reducing pain and inflammation. Many clients find it helpful when trying to treat chronic pain, injuries, and post-surgery recovery. At The Healing Collective, our holistic physical therapy practitioner uses PEMF as one part of an individualized plan of care.
